Championship Promotion Race Analysis

Four clubs are locked together at the top of the Championship on 14 points after seven matches: West Ham, Swansea, Middlesbrough and West Brom are separated only by goal difference, with West Ham’s attack the most potent of the group, having scored 20 goals in seven games. West Ham’s return to the second tier has clearly not slowed their attacking output, though a defence that has conceded nine goals means the automatic promotion picture remains unsettled this early. QPR and Charlton are both handily placed on 12 points from seven games, while Wolves, playing a game fewer, sit seventh on 11 points with the division’s form table still very much in flux. With so many sides within touching distance of the top two automatic promotion spots, the Championship’s traditionally congested table looks set to stay that way deep into the season.
