Ligue 1 Title Race Analysis
Ligue 1’s top of the table is unusually crowded four games in: Lille, Monaco and Rennes are all tied on ten points, each unbeaten, separated only by goal difference. Lille’s defence has been the tightest of the trio, conceding just twice in four matches while scoring seven. Paris Saint-Germain, by contrast, sit in a share of seventh place with five points from four games, one win, two draws and a defeat, an uncharacteristically slow start for the club that has dominated the division in recent years. Lyon and Paris FC have both taken eight points from four unbeaten games, while Strasbourg’s attacking return of nine goals in four matches has them handily placed on seven points. With PSG already five points off the pace this early, and three different clubs sharing top spot, the opening weeks suggest a more open title race than Ligue 1 has produced in some time.
